Hello there, composters,
This past month marked eight years of ScrapDogs, and we couldn’t have done it without you! Over the years, we’ve collected and composted thousands of tons of food scraps, offered services from Waterville to Wiscasset, welcomed aboard an amazing, hardworking team, and grown to include roughly 800 composting households and organizations.
As a rule, we do not like to raise prices on our services and have managed to avoid doing so since 2022. We are driven by the goal to make composting as accessible as possible, and affordability is a major calculation in our daily and overall operations. We believe that more options (and price points) for composting lead to more food scraps being rescued from landfills and incinerators - our primary mission!
However, in the face of sky-high fuel and vehicle maintenance costs (two of our primary expenses), as well as the rising cost of living and other sourcing costs, we are unable to sustain our current pricing and continue to offer the level of service we pride ourselves on providing. On August 15th, we will be implementing a pricing increase of 6.7% across the board for our curbside pickup services and $7 for drop-off services.* Our pricing will change to the following:
Weekly Pickups will be raised to $48/every 4 weeks (+ tax)
Bi-Weekly Pickups will be raised to $32/every 4 weeks (+ tax)
Monthly Pickups will raised to $16/every 4 weeks (+ tax)
Drop-Offs will be raised to $25/every 4 weeks (+ tax)
Party Buckets and additional buckets will be raised to $2.00 per (+ tax)
* Our Nonprofit and Pantry/Soup Kitchen discounts will remain the same!
The cost of your subscription pays for:
Clean, convenient disposal of your food scraps, free of the mess, smell, cost, and headache of tossing your scraps in your trash bag. Plus, you can skip pickups, check your schedule, track your data, request compost givebacks, and more on our online platform!
Sanitized, critter-resistent buckets with sealing lids and handy handles. All fresh buckets have been emptied, scrubbed, run through our commercial-grade dishwasher, and dipped in a bleach-water solution before heading back your way.
Half a yard of finished compost that builds up your garden soils or those of a neighbor or local farm, improves plant health and yield, and is delivered conveniently to your door or drop-off location. Our compost is weed-free, finely-screened, approved for organic use by MOFGA, and tested and vetted for contaminants and pathogens.
Reduced carbon emissions from landfills, incinerators, and individual vehicle trips, and carbon sequestration by compost-enriched soils.
Free or reduced composting services and compost for local food banks, soup kitchens, schools, and other non-profit, community-serving organizations.
Local jobs, community-level environmental education, and the promotion of a circular ethos and economy here in Maine.
We are deeply grateful for all of the support, enthusiasm, and commitment to composting that our community has shown these past eight years. Thank you!!
Happy scrappin’,
Tessa + Davis
